The challenge
Utrack Inc sells a GPS tracking service for vehicles, people, pets and valuables, used with a UTrack GPS device. A tracker by itself is only a device. To sell it as a service, the business needed three pieces working together. Customers needed an app they could rely on: where the tracker is right now, where it has been, and an alert the moment something changes. The operations team needed a back office: every device on record with its IMEI and ICCID, devices activated, extended, cancelled and renewed in bulk, alert features that match what each device model can do, staff accounts with the right permissions, and a view of subscriptions and payments. And under both, a tracking backend that takes positions and events from the devices and serves them to the app and the admin.
Solution
We built UTrack end to end: the tracking backend, the web admin and the mobile app. **Traccar backend.** We set up and customized Traccar as UTrack's tracking server. It receives positions and events from the devices and feeds both the app and the admin. **Flutter app for iOS and Android.** One Flutter codebase for both platforms: - Live location on the map with speed, battery level and signal - Alerts in the app, by SMS and by email, such as device removed, started moving, device turned off and speeding - Geofences drawn as circle or rectangle zones, with enter and exit alerts - A live trip trail and route history playback with a time slider and an event card for each point - Every tracker in one list, with battery, speed and last update, plus a choice of map styles: white, terrain, satellite, dark, traffic and hybrid **Laravel web admin.** The operations side, one menu per job: - **Devices:** the device inventory with IMEI, ICCID, owner and activation date, filters by status, partner, plan and plan expiry, quick search and CSV export - **Device Models:** per-model alert features switched on or off, including SOS, speed limit, start moving, geofence enter and exit, low battery, power on and off, device removal, battery beeper, Bluetooth and key buttons - **Manager Tools:** bulk forms to activate a list of devices for a customer and plan, change device expiry, cancel subscriptions with a reason, and set activation and renewal plans - **Admin Users:** admin and agent accounts with permission levels - **Admin Reports:** activation and cancellation charts with CSV download, plus server-health gauges for CPU, load, RAM, swap and disk - **Payment methods:** PayPal subscriptions with customer, device, status and start date
Results
- Utrack Inc runs its GPS tracking service on one platform we built: the Traccar backend, the Laravel web admin and the Flutter app for iOS and Android. - Customers follow their trackers live, replay past routes, set geofences and get alerts in the app, by SMS and by email. - The operations team provisions devices by IMEI and ICCID, handles activations, expiry, cancellations and renewals in bulk, and matches alert features to each device model. - Subscriptions, reports with CSV export and server health sit in the same admin. **Next step:** Selling GPS trackers and need the app, the admin and the Traccar backend behind them?
