Case Study

A GeoLox fleet portal TechMania built and customized for a client: geofence enter/exit events feed the same alerts hub and reports, so breaches become ops work.

The challenge

Fleet operators draw geofences for a reason: depots, customer sites, restricted zones, regional coverage. Too often those polygons stay on a map that nobody opens when something actually happens. When a vehicle enters or leaves a zone, the event may never reach the same inbox that handles overspeed, offline, or ignition alerts. Ops hears about boundary problems in a phone call, a separate GIS tool, or a weekly export — after the shift is over. Supervisors cannot mark the exception read, filter by type, or pull a geofence report beside the live trail. The industry gap is simple: a geofence that does not feed alerts and reports is map decoration. Boundary events need to become weekday exception work under the same identity model as the rest of the fleet portal.

Architecture

In GeoLox, a fleet-tracking portal TechMania built and customized for a client, geofences are not a side map. Zone enter/exit events wire into the same alerts hub and reports surface operators already use for other exceptions. This case study isolates that geofence → alert → report loop. It is not the full GeoLox product story, and it is not the Risk & Safety driving-scores angle covered separately on the TechMania blog.

Solution

The surfaces that make up that loop: - Geofences — map-based zone create/manage; empty-state New flow for defining zones whose enter/exit events feed alerts and reports - Alerts — hub with unread / alarm / geofence / speed / online-offline counters; time-range and type filters; unread-only view; stream with mark-read controls - Alert settings — notification toggles and thresholds that include geofence alongside speed, idle, offline, battery, and maintenance email preferences - Also in the same portal: a live map, Reports Center geofence report alongside trips / mileage / overspeed, and device inventory — so a breach can be opened next to position and history without leaving the product Alert types such as online/offline, ignition, moving, geofence, and speed illustrate the classification model.

Results

What this changes for operators: - Boundary enter/exit events land in the same alerts hub as other fleet exceptions, with filters and mark-read cadence - Geofence configuration and alert preference control sit in one portal identity model — not a separate GIS login - Ops can move from zone definition → exception stream → related reports without rebuilding the story from chat - Map polygons become operational: supervisors treat geofence hits as work items, not decorative shapes Next step Need geofence alerts, exception hubs, or a fleet portal where boundary events become actionable ops? https://techmania.solutions
